Why do I need training on how to handle Dangerous Goods?
In order to handle, package, transport or offer for transport Dangerous Goods, you must have adequate training. It is the Law.
In Canada it is regulated by Transport Canada for road, rail, marine and air. Internationally it is regulated by ICAO the International Civil Aviation Organization in their ICAO Technical Instructions. Each country like Canada will also regulate Dangerous Goods from to and thru their Territory. E.g. USA 49CFR-UK CAA Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulation 2002. Airlines or Operators have their own organization called IATA. This is the International Airline Transport Association. As per the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations you must use their regulations to ship Dangerous Goods on an IATA operator and you must be trained. The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations contain all of the requirements of the ICAO Technical Instructions. IATA has included additional requirements, which are more restrictive than the Technical Instructions and reflect industry standard practices or operational considerations.
